No Comfort for Criminals in Mt. Hope!
One of the most effective ways to report crimes and to prevent crimes from happening around the nation has been the Neighborhood Crime Watch. The principle is simple: Since police officers cannot be everywhere at everytime, crime can simply move from street to street to try to evade police surveillance. But if everyone in the neighborhood is paying attention and reports suspicious activity, criminals will not be safe anywhere.
Be a Crime Watch Member
You can help, and you can make a difference today, by being a member of Crime Watch. In addition to reporting crimes, Crime watch members learn about how to prevent crimes from happening and keep an eye out when a neighbor goes out of town. We will also have some meetings and social events for Crime Watch members to learn more about safeguarding their homes and preventing crime. Fill out the form on the right of this page for more information.
Be a Block Captain or Assistant Block Captain
Mt. Hope Neighborhood Crime Watch is expanding, block by block, until we cover the entire neighborhood. In order to expand, we need volunteers like you who are interested in organizing crime watch on your block.
Block captains play a crucial role in crime watch. To get started as a block captain, you would go door to door getting to know their neighbors and your neighborhood, talking about crime watch, and getting your neighbors to join. You would also be in charge of disseminating information to your neighbors about crime and crime prevention through a phone tree, and recruiting new residents into crime watch. Please fill out the form to the right if you are interested.
More Reasons to Join
Being a crime watch block captain is not designed to be a huge time commitment, and being a crime watch member takes very little time at all.
Anyone can join Crime Watch- homeowners and renters alike - just as long as you believe that Mt. Hope would be a better place without crime. The more eyes we have, the more likely that we can help to make Mt. Hope a safer community.
Although we encourage you to join GCCC, you do NOT have to be a GCCC member to be a Crime Watch member.
If you would rather not be a Block Captain, please let us know if you would like to help out in some other way. We need help with community-wide activities, like setting up meetings and social events for crime watch members, and working with police and agencies to secure Crime Watch signs and materials.
