I have been looking for a community outlet to Mt. Hope and am extremely excited to have coincidentally stumbled on to this. I too am so disappointed in the lack of addressing the real concerns in the neighborhood as to the lack of workshops that should be available to the youth as well as young adults in the neighborhood.
I would never consider myself an Uncle Tom but an African American man who takes pride in home ownership and a man who wants to take care of his family. The men in the neighborhood must make a stand and stick to their morals to make a change in the neighborhood.
Let our actions speak louder than the words that so happen to fall on deaf ears. We can never expect to make any changes unless we make them first. So I say this to say this; Is there anyone willing to make this change?????
Although One person can make a change but I feel strongly that this MUST be a unified effort in order to make any inroads in our great melting pot we call Mount Hope.

It is wonderful to hear people speaking out more about the need for constructive change in the neighborhood and the desire to work together. Unless there is collective action without accusation (i.e. finger-pointing in regard to the supposed gentrification) Mount Hope will continue to have a long road ahead.
Do community meetings still happen? When and where?

Welcome aboard, mate. I'm glad you stumbled onto our site. The more voices of reason and change the powers that be hear the sooner that change will come. The voices of people who recognize the problems are important for those among us who can't express what they feel or think or are too intimidated or afraid to do so.
Too many of the people responsible for the problems in Mt. Hope, those who wish for things to remain the way they have been for the past 30 years, think that no one cares, that no one can bring the needed change, because they have instilled fear and frustration among some residents who have shrugged and largely given up. But change has been happening at a steady pace despite efforts to maintain the status quo of Mt. Hope as a place where drugs and violence is just a fact of life and always will be.
Your call to action, call for personal responsibility is very, very welcome and well heard.
Here we have many different opinions and ways to approach the future of Mt. Hope: all are welcome.
