Incident on Lancaster?
Incident on Lancaster -- any word?
Around 11:00 pm last night I heard a woman screaming outside my house. I checked the corner of Camp and Woodbine Streets (the usual suspect for noise) and saw nothing. The screaming continued and I finally located it somewhere behind my house.
I opened my window and I could make out that she was screaming words, "Help me! Help me! He's raping me!" Shaking, I quickly grabbed the phone and called 911. As I was on the phone I continued to hear her screaming, along with a man's voice. I couldn't make out what he was saying, but she was screaming "He's lying!" The operator transferred me to the police where they took all my infomation again and then told me I could hang up.
I listened to the screaming for a several more minutes before I saw an officer drive by on Camp Street and the woman screamed for him. He turned down Lancaster Street and the screaming stopped. I'm not sure what happened after that. Anyone else in that area witness this last night?

I talked to a neighbor last night who was witnessed a couple, known to her, that was fighting shortly before the incident. It was not Mr. Briggs. She said that the female appeared to be scared of the male. She wondered if that was who it could have been. I've talked to several people who heard the screaming, but no one heard what she was saying. I guess that's where it pays to be a good Crime Watcher; I actually opened the window.

Just don't expect the Crime Stats to record this incident, Jen. Remember, according to the police, and according to the crime stats they worship, Mt. Hope is the safest neighborhood in the city.
Yeah, right, not counting this and that and hundreds of drug deals, thefts, and incidents of vandalism that go unreported each and every week.

It was a good judgement call to dial 911 last night, Jen. Nobody expects a young single mother like yourself to confront a violent criminal. You must have been so scared yourself. I am sorry you had such a horrible experience near your home. I hope your little Red Sox fan was asleep and did not hear anything.
I have been living in Mt. Hope for over 8 years and I have never heard about any rapes or even attempted rapes in this area.
On the another hand, it could have been Mr. Briggs next door fooling around with one of his intoxicaded ladies. I wonder if anybody has any idea about what happened last night.

While it can occasionally be loud in this area, the is probably one of the more quiet areas in Mt Hope. That's why this incident seemed out of the ordinary. I fear the day when people become complacent to the calls of help from another human being...

I, too, heard a commotion outside my window but at the corner of Camp and Cypress at 11pm, last night, shortly after I had gone to bed.
I thought nothing of it, but if it continued I was going to open my bedroom window and yell "shut the F--- up" as has been my wont in the past, along with some other choice expletives.
This is what happens when there is so much noise at night in this neighborhood. It's like the person who cried wolf! Who pays attention?
