Knowles & Abbott Action

What are they doing in there?

Several users have entered our site using search engines inputting the following terms: Mt. Hope Land Trust and Knowles and Abbot Providence land Trust.

In driving by the corner in question I see much clearing and what looks like construction preparation.

Rumor has it that they are preparing the area for a subsidized housing develpoment.

I have no additional information.

Abbott Court is the first project by the state's newly formed land trust. Yes, the MHNLT sold the land to the state. There will be five buildings housing a total of nine condos to be sold (sold, not rented, not section 8) to households who earn 60% of the median income (I dont know how much that is). The state will retain ownership of the land. The buildings will be stone or brick on the first floor and vinyl siding on the second floor. Many trees, especially on the Knowles St. side will be left. The builder, Carlo Ruggieri of REACH, has left his card at the Learning Center. He has told me he will make elevations available but has not said when or where.
Since it's in my front yard, I'm not completely thrilled, but I have never seen the lot looking as good as it currently does, either.

I believe these are the street addresses: 92 and 100 Abbott St. and 111, 115, and 117 Knowles. There may be more adjacent lots but these are the bulk of them as far as I can tell.

Does anyone know the street address for this development?

I have the Plat and Lot numbers, but not the street address. Once we have the street address, Building Inspections with the City can tell us who pulled a permit to build on this property, and what the permits are for, as it is all public record.

I heard that rumor too. I actually searched the archives of this site and found a topic on housing on Abbott & Knowles. There was a link provided by Katie: http://www.housingnetworkri.org/sub_housing_files/membership_subpages/production/reach.pdf

The site now says that "REACH is currently working in partnership, as developer and
contractor, with the Mt.Hope CDC on the gut rehab of a single
family home on Jenkins Street in Providence and is in the
planning stages for the new construction of 9 condominium
units called Abbott Court."
I guess it's no longer a rumor.
