Remember Street Sweeping?

Is now the time? Well, is it? Is it really?

Remember Street Sweeping? That's where the City to whom we pay such high property taxes condescends to sweep an entire winter's worth of debris off of our streets. It last happened in our neighborhood, District 3, about 9 months ago. Not bad for a major East coast city, huh!

Of course this blog first reported the street sweeping schedule when we were scheduled for April 19, 20, 21, but then that sechedule was mysteriously removed from the DPW webpage and replaced with a "completed" designation. After much back and forth with the City, they told me were scheduled for May 29, and June 2nd & 3rd.

Now I'm getting smart, (I think. . .?): I copied the schedule right from the DPW webpage. Here it is:

District 3 June 2,5,6 On Schedule

By my calculations that means this comming Thrusday, Friday and Monday, but then again, who knows, the only thing for sure in this life, they say, is death and taxes, and we know all about taxes, don't we; what we don't know much about in Mt. Hope is street sweeping. You see, we haven't experienced it in so long, it's become just a vague memory.

Look out for your street, your neighborhood!

Clean streets are not mean streets!

Way to Go GCCC !!!!! Last night at about 12:30 AM I was awakened by the sounds of trucks outside. Looking out the window there were two street sweepers on the corner of Camp and Lancaster this was the best middle of the night sounds I have heard here in Mt. Hope. Thank You Irene for pushing the right buttons.

I don't doubt that it will happen. I noticed that some of the streets on the east side (not in Mt Hope) appeared to have been cleaned over the past few days; however, they still look *horrible*. They only way that I noticed is that there appeared to be tracks in the dirt on the side of the streets! I think if they did a better job they would only have to do it once a year. That's how they used to do it where I lived previously.

Rita Murphy of ONC informed us today that Mt. Hope streets will be cleaned in the next two days. Considering the source, it sounds convincing: Rita is known to mean business. My question is whether the beautiful old city Providence deserves to be cleaned more often as a whole, and Mt. Hope, one of its oldest and most beautiful neighborhoods, in particular. I think it does.

John don’t flatter yourself too quickly as June 5th is a Sunday and if you really think that they are going to sweep on Sunday (lol) I have a bridge in Mt. Hope to sell you.

I wanted to address something that I have been noticing, especially in regards to the street sweeping. There seems to be a prevalent attitude that we are neglected and receive less services for our tax dollar because we are in Mount Hope. I am an avid rollerblader and I can tell you that *nowhere* on the East Side was done by the city.

I heard at the last GCCC meeting things about how if you lived over by Blackstone Blvd that your street would have already been swept. That is simply not true. It may appear that way, in spots, because when the homeowners had their spring landscaping done the landscaping crew took a leaf blower to the gravel. There is just as much debris in the streets in that area as there is over here, especially in the intersections. My point is: *no one* in Ward 3 has been swept yet.

Let's home it gets done in this round. I tired of nearly falling on my face everyday!
